Introduction

The Bible is a map, not only showing how to get there but also predicting what we are likely to encounter along the way. That journey is not without its detours. And it’s not uncommon for us to encounter another of Life’s Questions along the way: Where is God?

Sometimes when we’re faced with a personal or professional 911, we become overly anxious to see evidence of God’s presence. After all, we’re only human... but God’s not.

Our ways are not His ways, and often we’re challenged to apply what Psalm 46 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” The operative phrase here is “be still.”

How good are you at embracing that philosophy? If you’re anything like me, the hotter an issue becomes, the harder it is to remain silent. But to be Christ-like in our actions, we might all do well to spend some time in Psalms and Zechariah, where in Chapter 2 the priest reminds us, “Be still before the Lord.”

To fully understand and appreciate exactly where God is at any given time, we must spend time with Him, becoming familiar with His Word, understanding His character and His instructions about work, relationships, and money. And once we do that, the blind part of faith will become much clearer. And so too will our ability to grasp His relevance in our lives.

You see, once we fully understand how big our God is, it becomes more natural to trust Him in our work life, our relationships, and our finances. Embracing someone does not automatically lead to trusting that person, but when you discover that the nature of that person is trustworthy, trust is inevitable.
