Introduction
Jesus, by all accounts was more than a good man, a great teacher, or a rabbi. In
the book of John, He tells His disciples over and over again that He is God, and
through the miracles He performed, He demonstrated and confirmed his deity.
As you unpack Chapter 5 of Life Questions, you will discover why Jesus came to earth.
Can you put into words your interpretation of why this perfect man left the throne
of heaven and the presence of God the Father to come down and reside in the midst
of sinners? Let’s think about this just a minute.
Imagine yourself living a perfect life with everything you could possibly want,
and all of the sudden your dad says, “Son, I’m taking all of your stuff away from
you and sending you to a place full of morally corrupt people. You’ll spend 32 years
there and then I’m going to have to nail you to a cross to atone for all of those
people’s sins.”
How would you react to that? I would venture to guess not well at all. But here’s
what you have to grasp. Are you ready?
- Jesus came to earth to save people from their sins. You and me included.
- As we discovered in the previous chapter, He demonstrated so many times that he
was no mortal man.
- He died a horrible death being nailed to a cross. And he went there willingly to
die for you and for me.
- Then the incredible event that sets Christianity apart from all other religions:
Jesus came back to life and ascended into Heaven.
Could you sacrifice your only son or daughter to save others from sin? Just try
for a moment to comprehend the enormity of what Christ did?
And here’s the payoff: he’s coming again in the final days of planet Earth.
