Commitment to Truth by Crawford Loritts

Introduction

Watching someone swim across a large body of water, like the English Channel, is not the same challenge as actually being the swimmer in the water. Unlike the observer, the swimmer will feel the doubt, exhaustion, and pain. Any athlete must spend months or even years in training to even begin to be prepared for such a major undertaking as swimming the Channel.

Very few people have accomplished such a feat. They must have a mental understanding of the requirement to reach the finish line, a true sense of dedication and commitment, and an unbending will. It will be a real test of their character, and should they fail to complete the task, it will be necessary for them to keep life in balance—to go on.

In our walk with Christ, we too must have much more than just a spectator’s interest; but unlike the swimmer who may fail to reach the finish line, every born-again believer will reach life’s finish line, known as heaven.

The real question is how will you finish? Will you live the abundant life spoken about in the Bible? Will your life bring honor and glory to Christ? Will you receive the incredible rewards spoken of in scripture for those who “seek first the Kingdom of God”?

In Chapter 1 of Book #3, Life Perspectives, we begin to fully comprehend the trustworthiness of Scripture. We understand how God has given to us Himself and revealed that in written form.

You want your Timothy to grasp the following truths about Scripture:

  1. The Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It is written by men as directed by the Holy Spirit.
  2. The Word of God reveals the person of Jesus Christ.
  3. It represents God’s instruction on how we should live and His plan about our lives.
  4. It is a historical document as well as a prophetic manuscript.
  5. The Bible is God’s instruction book on how to live a purposeful life that fulfills us and pleases Him.
