Introduction
Chapter 5 of Life Perspectives paints a portrait of two very important aspects of
the Christian life. First is the issue of being connected to the Body of Christ—that’s
His church. This church, according to Christ, is all believers, not a building.
This is His body of believers whom He has redeemed.
Today, there are many different variations of Christians within the body. We can
attend churches of various denominations and worship styles. But being a church-goer
does not automatically make you a believer. Only a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ makes you or your Timothy part of the body of Christ known as the church.
The second part of this chapter deals with stewardship, and stewardship is an important
concept for all members of the body to understand. It is important for your protégée
to grasp the concept of joining a Bible-based church and contributing a portion
of his resources and energy in a way that glorifies God.
Everything we have belongs to God. We are just managers of these things on God’s
behalf. Being involved in a local body is part of our growth process. Not any church
will do. It needs to be a healthy, Bible-teaching church.
All money and possessions belong to God. They need to be used for his glory. Our
key relationships—in marriage and family—should also be viewed as resources that
require great care. Generosity with time, talent, and treasure is a way to bless
the heart of God and releases us to live the abundant life now.
